A big cheque in both senses of the word!

Thank you so much to curator Penelope Gebhardt and gallerist Chiara Finnigan @SilverleafArtBox for developing and delivering the amazing #HOLDINGGROUND art exhibition. The project raised $75,500 for our community’s #SaveArthursSeat campaign!

Thank you to the wonderful artists who took part in the exhibition and to collaborating partners Montalto Vineyard and Merricks General Wine Store, and the many people who purchased art, made a donation or supported the initiative behind the scenes.

Lockdowns made it hard for us to get together until this week but the funds were received on June 18.

Volunteers Mark Fancett and Michelle de la Coeur who have worked tirelessly on the Save Arthurs Seat community campaign, were pleased to accept the cheque on behalf of Save Arthurs Seat. They are pictured here (left) with Penelope (second from right) and Chiara (right).

“We are incredibly grateful for this upswell of support. It boosted our campaign tremendously. It tells us that people care deeply about the conservation of Wonga/Arthurs Seat,”

said Mark, who is president of the Peninsula Preservation Group.

The funds raised helped us get our message out, including publishing full page open letters in The Age and the MP News signed by 122 doctors highlighting the health risks of the Ross Trust’s planned massive quarry on Arthurs Seat.

The funds have also helped us initiate preliminary studies for the Environmental Effects Statement.

Visit Silver Leaf Art Box for details on upcoming exhibitions.

Warm regards,

Save Arthurs Seat Team
